Previous | Home | NextThis is another view of the Lycée Faidherbe, looking northeast down Boulevard Carnot. Both Lamy and Crookes first identified the new element spectroscopically, following the lead of Bunsen who discovered cesium (blue line) and rubidium (red line) by their newly invented technique in Heidelberg {LINK: Heidelberg060}. Crookes and Lamy identified thallium by its light green spectral line. From his Belgian ores, Lamy could prepare quantities of thallium, and he soon prepared (1862) over a gram of the metal. In June 1862 Lamy transported an ingot of 14 grams to the London Exposition. The following year he had prepared a kilogram!
